Simply FIRST AID for children and babies means taking action in an emergency situation where a young person is involved, where NOT to do so could lead to that child possibly dying or suffering unnecessary pain or anxiety. Giving first aid to children and babies is similar to that of adults except that the communication is often very different. An adult, for example can often state quite clearly ‘what happened’ or can explain ‘where it hurts’ but a baby or very young child will communicate in a different way. If you are looking after young people, it is worth investing some time in searching out these subtle clues that ‘something might be wrong’ This booklet will not only help the reader to look for such clues, but also help a child minder prepare for and deal with medical emergencies in young people.
